Bangladesh Urban Health Network (BUHN) at ICUH 2024: Highlighting Climate Resilience and Urban Health

The 20th International Conference on Urban Health (ICUH) 2024, hosted by the International Society for Urban Health (ISUH) in Marrakesh, Morocco, was a landmark event, bringing together global experts to address pressing challenges in urban health under the theme "A Healthier Horizon: Activating Urban Health Strategies for a Climate Resilient Tomorrow." Held from November 18-21, 2024, the conference featured participants from different countries including researchers, policymakers, and practitioners, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to urban health resilience and climate adaptation.

Bangladesh Urban Health Network (BUHN) contributed significantly to the dialogue through its panel discussion, titled "Climate Change and Urban Health: Navigating Challenges and Crafting Resilient Futures for Bangladesh," held on November 21, 2024 from 12:00 to 13:00 (GMT+01). This session, hosted at the 06 Agafay venue, focused on the multifaceted impacts of climate change on urban health in Bangladesh. Experts from diverse fields discussed how unplanned urbanization exacerbates vulnerabilities to climate-induced risks such as heatwaves, air pollution, and waterborne diseases, highlighting innovative interventions for adaptation and resilience.

The session aligned with ICUH 2024’s thematic focus on building climate-resilient urban environments and strengthening health systems to respond effectively to climate-driven challenges. It emphasized community-driven engagement models, sustainable urban planning, and the integration of health and climate data to inform equitable policies. BUHN underscored the importance of green infrastructure, disaster preparedness, and public health frameworks tailored to urban populations, particularly those most vulnerable to climate impacts.

By participating in ICUH 2024, BUHN reaffirmed its commitment to aligning local urban health strategies with global resilience efforts. The network showcased Bangladesh's unique challenges and opportunities, leveraging the conference platform to foster collaboration and exchange knowledge with international stakeholders. The event not only amplified the voices of Bangladeshi experts but also positioned the nation as a proactive contributor to the global discourse on urban health and climate resilience.
