Bangladesh Rising: Celebrating Science, Technology, and Innovation for a Better Future.

Date: September 16, 2025

At BUHN, we believe that science, technology, and innovation (STI) are the keys to inclusive and sustainable development. The International Day of Science, Technology, and Innovation for the South offers Bangladesh an opportunity to showcase its progress, reflect on its challenges, and chart a future where knowledge and innovation benefit every citizen.

Why This Day Matters for Bangladesh

Science, technology, and innovation are not just tools they are lifelines for a rapidly developing nation like Bangladesh. This day is a chance to:

Celebrate the work of Bangladeshi scientists, engineers, entrepreneurs, and policymakers who are finding homegrown solutions to national challenges.

Inspire investment in STEM education, research funding, and local innovation hubs.

Strengthen international partnerships so Bangladesh can share its innovations and learn from global peers.

Bangladesh’s Achievements in STI

Bangladesh has been making significant strides in leveraging STI to address critical development issues:

Climate Adaptation: Floating agriculture technologies, solar-powered irrigation, and resilient housing models are helping coastal communities cope with rising sea levels and extreme weather (FAO, 2023) . Bangladesh’s innovative cyclone preparedness programs are now global best practices (UNDRR, 2024).

Digital Healthcare: Telemedicine services and mobile health apps such as those supported by (A2i Program) are extending access to doctors for millions in rural areas. The country’s use of AI-driven diagnostic tools for TB detection has significantly improved early diagnosis rates (WHO, 2024).

Education: Initiatives like (Muktopaath) and the National Digital Education Strategy are enabling millions of students to access digital lessons, even in remote areas (MoE, 2023).

ICT Innovation: The “Digital Bangladesh” vision has spurred a thriving startup ecosystem, promoting fintech, e-commerce, and AI-driven solutions (ICT Division, 2024). Bangladesh now boasts over 1,200 startups, with several securing international investment (Startup Bangladesh, 2025).

Building Partnerships for the Future

Bangladesh’s progress shows the power of collaboration. Partnerships among universities, the ICT sector, NGOs, and global organizations are bridging the digital divide, empowering women and youth in STEM, and creating job opportunities for the future workforce. International collaborations such as the (South-South Network for STI Policy) are helping Bangladesh align its innovation strategies with global trends.

Looking Ahead

As we observe this International Day, Bangladesh has an opportunity to strengthen its STI ecosystem further. By investing in research infrastructure, promoting women-led innovation, and incentivizing green technology development, the country can continue to lead in addressing challenges like climate change, public health, and equitable economic growth. Let this day be a call to action: to celebrate our successes, close remaining gaps, and ensure that every breakthrough whether in a village or a laboratory helps build a fairer, smarter, and more resilient Bangladesh.
