Intelligent General Practitioner (iGP) Model: Reimagining Primary Healthcare for All
Achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) remains a global health priority, especially in Low- and Middle- Income Countries (LMICs), where systemic barriers hinder equitable access to essential healthcare services. While Community Health Workers (CHWs) in many LMICs have achieved notable success, they often provide services like family planning or vaccinations only, resulting comprehensive healthcare needs of a family (from newborn to elderly) remain unmet. CHWs lack innovation and support to provide comprehensive healthcare services to address the holistic family healthcare needs. To address these persisting challenges CMED Health developed Intelligent General Practitioner (iGP) model, an AI-powered, patient- centered, CHWs driven model with an integrated GP Center in the community designed to deliver comprehensive preventive and primary healthcare including referral and follow-up at people’s doorsteps for enhancing well-being, extending lives, & advancing UHC through equitable, community- centered healthcare.
From health education and early screenings to triage, referrals, and follow-ups, iGP model integrates comprehensive preventive and primary healthcare services with audio/video teleconsultations, an integrated GP clinic in the community ensuring quality & empathetic doctor consultations, referrals to higher-level care as needed to enable equitable healthcare for all. By the adaptation of AI, community outreach, and an integrated digital healthcare ecosystem, iGP model provides a scalable and cost-effective solution to deliver equitable, accessible, affordable, and quality healthcare for all ensuring better health, productivity and happiness. iGP model offers services just at $1/rural family and $3/urban family towards ensuring long‑term viability. CMED Health aim to scale this nationally with government partnership and expand globally across LMICs & advance equitable, quality healthcare for all.
Over the decades, CMED Health has impacted over 3 million lives through the creation of digital health accounts and providing patient-centered comprehensive preventive and primary healthcare solution by working directly with community health workers, serving both rural & urban populace, employees & factory workers, adolescents, adults, women & aging population to understand their pain points and tailor iGP solution accordingly. With support from partners, PKSF & NGOs (Rural); SIDA, UNICEF & NGOs (Urban); and ILO, BGMEA & BKMEA (Workplace), iGP model has reached across 100+ catchment areas, supported 3K+ female health workers and ensuring 99.5% satisfaction. These implementations were supported by partners, impact investors and donors, creating an opportunity for CMED to learn & optimize the model. Building on this, CMED established a self- sustaining version of iGP model (Amader Susastho) located at Uttara, Dhaka, offering a seamless, tech driven urban primary healthcare through an integrated service delivery framework to provide empathetic, accessible, and affordable care for individual and family. It offers a wide range of services, including empathetic consultations (10-minutes) with experienced doctors, providing comprehensive primary care with an emphasis on MNCH, NCDs, and infectious diseases, digital health check-ups, 24/7 offline and online healthcare support and follow-up calls to monitor recovery progress. Additional benefits include on-site lab tests at discounted price, affordable quality medicines from the model pharmacy. For specialized care, this initiative provides referrals to quality hospitals. This approach strengthens referral linkages to higher facilities and enables data-driven decision-making through digital health records, aligning with goals of equitable access and sustainable urban health systems. With a focus on preventive and primary care, timely treatment, and holistic well-being, this initiative ensures continuous and high-quality healthcare tailored to urban population.
