Key Stakeholders Message

Mr. Md. Mamunur Rashid

Joint Secretary (World Health Wing), Health Services Division

Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW)

Mr. Md. Mamunur Rashid has consistently emphasized the importance of strengthening Bangladesh’s urban health system through evidence-based, collaborative, and equitable approaches.

During BUHN’s 3rd Knowledge Sharing Virtual Seminar on “Urban Health and Nutrition” (January 14, 2025), he highlighted the necessity of a coordinated, multi-sectoral approach to address the complex health and nutrition challenges in urban areas. He underscored the need for preventive actions, functional referral systems, and the integration of diverse stakeholder inputs under a unified platform to achieve sustainable outcomes.

At the 5th Knowledge Sharing Virtual Seminar on “Investment Opportunities for Urban Health” (May 8, 2025), Mr. Rashid stressed the critical role of private investment and public–private partnerships in advancing urban health services. Drawing on insights from the Health Sector Reform Commission’s report, he called for reducing out-of-pocket expenditure, improving budget efficiency, and overcoming implementation challenges linked to financial and capacity constraints.

Most recently, as the Chief Guest at the 8th Knowledge Sharing Virtual Seminar on “Urban Health and Access to Drug and Medicine” (September 3, 2025), he reaffirmed the government’s commitment to addressing the growing burden of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) and ensuring equitable access to essential medicines, particularly in urban settings where prevalence is high. He commended BUHN’s platform for generating actionable policy recommendations and linked the seminar’s outcomes to Bangladesh’s preparedness for the Fourth UN High-Level Meeting on the Prevention and Control of NCDs and the Promotion of Mental Health and Wellbeing (HLM4) in September 2025.

Through his continued engagement, Mr. Rashid has underscored the value of knowledge-sharing forums like BUHN in shaping national health priorities, fostering policy innovation, and strengthening Bangladesh’s position in global health dialogue.
