Training on Web Portal and Social Media
On November 12, 2024, a training session on utilizing the Bangladesh Urban Health Network (BUHN) web portal and social media was conducted by Bangladesh Urban Health Network to strengthen participant engagement with BUHN’s digital resources. The session, moderated by Ummay Farihin Sultana, Senior Research & Knowledge Management Officer, Eminence Associates for Social Development, aimed to enhance participants’ understanding of BUHN’s online tools, fostering greater usability, stakeholder engagement, and promotion of urban health initiatives. The training covered key topics, including website functionality, accessibility, and product offerings, with an emphasis on user engagement strategies.
Dr. Shahin Akter, Technical Operation Director at Eminence Associates for Social Development opened the session by welcoming attendees and highlighting the importance of digital capacity-building and networking in advancing urban health outcomes.
Following the introduction, Communication Officer Sayma Sultana provided a comprehensive overview of BUHN with its mission to advance urban health justice in Bangladesh, highlighting its activities throughout the contract period, including Executive and Advisory Committee meetings, participation in international urban health conferences, bi-weekly knowledge-sharing virtual seminars, e-newsletters, infographics, motion infographics, stickers, and newspaper articles etc., emphasizing its evidence-based advocacy, partnerships with organizations like UNICEF and the Swedish government, and its significant impact on community engagement and policy, while encouraging both individual and organizational support for creating a more equitable and sustainable urban health landscape.
Dr. Maliha Khan Majlish, Senior Technical & Development Officer at Eminence Associates for Social Development, demonstrated how to navigate BUHN’s web portal and social media on desktop and laptop platforms, highlighting key website features such as registration, account creation, and subscription options for updates, while guiding participants through important sections like ‘What We Do’—which covers BUHN’s advocacy, accountability, capacity-building, and communication efforts—and the ‘Resources’ section, which includes publications, multimedia content, newsletters, and seminar recordings, encouraging attendees to explore these sections regularly to stay connected with ongoing urban health developments and to engage with available resources for continuous learning.
Md. Wahiduzzaman, Urban Health Officer at Eminence Associates for Social Development, demonstrated how to access and navigate the BUHN web portal and social media on mobile devices, covering browser selection (Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari), account creation, and accessing resources like publications and newsletters, while also guiding participants on locating BUHN’s Facebook page and engaging with content, including E-newsletters and multimedia, highlighting the convenience and accessibility of staying updated on BUHN’s activities through mobile devices for flexibility and on-the-go engagement.
The session concluded with remarks from Dr. Asifur Rahman, Health Manager at Eminence Associates for Social Development, who appreciated the informative and interactive nature of the training and acknowledged the active participation from attendees.
The training session outlined key next steps, including regular website updates, encouraging participants to subscribe to the newsletter, engage with BUHN's social media, and consider joining as members or partners, while also offering ongoing support. Additionally, future webinars and training sessions were planned to facilitate continued knowledge exchange on urban health, marking a significant step toward digital empowerment within the BUHN community and fostering a collaborative network for advancing urban health advocacy and action.
